Zeldin: MTA Tax A "Defining Failure" PDF Print E-mail
Articles | Long Island

Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R, C, I- Shirley), a star ont he rise in Long Island politics, created a political website called www.DumpTheMTATax.com which allows him  to take his message directly to citizens, small business owners and others who are being crushed by this job-killing tax that, in 2009, was placed on every business, school, local government, nonprofit and hospital in Suffolk County and throughout the 12 county MTA region.

www.DumpTheMTATax.com invites voters to take a survey, and learn more about the MTA and the MTA Tax, as well as Senator Zeldin’s efforts to repeal the tax.

The Senate passed Senator Zeldin’s MTA Payroll Tax repeal legislation (S.5596-A/A.8193-A) with a bi-partisan 40-22 vote, but the Assembly Democratic leadership didn’t even allow a vote in the State Assembly.

“This $1.4 billion dollar tax is one of the defining failures of our state government to produce a responsible service for the people of our region. As the services the MTA provide continue to decline, the cost to taxpayers steadily increase on an unsustainable and irresponsible path. I want to know if you stand with me on this issue. I urge everyone to go to www.DumpTheMTATax.com, take my survey and let me know how you feel about repealing the $1.4 billion dollar MTA Payroll Tax,” said Senator Zeldin.
